Character Inspirations: Who Would Play The Part of My Characters?

Many authors and writers use photographs for inspiration during their writing, whether those are pictures of scenery, paintings or people. I've used scenery pictures often enough and years ago I used pictures of people that I imagined were my characters. I haven't done that for quite a while, probably because now that I'm a mother I don't have much spare time to browse magazines or the internet for fun things to do. I have books to write, books to read, kids and husband to feed, wash clothes and dishes and okay, the list goes on and on and on...

But last week, I stumbled upon a photo of an actor that an author was using as inspiration and it renewed my interest in pondering who my character people might resemble in the real world. If my book were made into a movie, who would play the parts of my hero and heroine?

So, I took some time away from washing the dishes (I'm never in a hurry to perform that task!) and flitted around the internet in search of my heroes and heroines. This is what I found:

Lord Jeremy North from The Witch and the Wolf...

Aidan Turner plays a vampire on a popular British TV show, but in my mind I see him as a sexy werewolf.

His heroine, Lillian Merriweather could be....
I love Emmy Rossum. She'd could be the perfect Lillian.

Sebastian Collins from The Witch and the Vampire....
Isn't he delicious? Richard Armitage plays in a lot of period dramas which I love!

And his lady love, Melora Merriweather...
Emilie de Ravin is rather new to me. And though in my mind's eye Melora has straight hair, the color is perfect.

So there you go! I hope you enjoyed this little bit of entertained inspiration! For those of you who have read my stories, I'd love to hear who you might picture as the characters! I've already been told by one fan that she knew I was thinking about Gerard Butler when I wrote Sebastian's part. Well, I can't deny that. If I'm writing about a dark-haired hero, its usually Gerry! But, I thought I'd save his picture for another time! ;)

  1. I did this all the time...until my editor said 'book trailer.' Then I choked. That's because I only ever had vague ideas.

Eventually, I realized who my Sophie is: Zooey Deschanel. Her photos are perfect.

Watching her in New Girl just cemented it.

  2. This was a fun experiment and I'm going to try practicing it in the future. Zooey Deschanel is rather new to me, too. I've only seen her in 2 movies, but I really like her!
