“Secret Admirer’s Christmas Wish #2”

When a former ugly duckling and the former class heart-throb come together as adults, they find out they have more in common than they realized.

Glenda Shaw knows firsthand what it’s like to be an ugly duckling, and now, she is roped into helping to organize her tenth-year class reunion. The speaker this year is none other than Hunter Teegs, the object of her dreams since their sophomore year in high school. She’s a dedicated social worker with a heart the size of Texas, but her hectic schedule doesn’t allow much time for dating or entertainment.

Hunter Teegs is a self-made financial powerhouse with a boatload of charisma and a winning sense of humor. He’s also a notorious womanizer and heartbreaker. He has no interest in settling down any time soon, if ever. To make matters worse, he has recently noticed details from his childhood that cause him to question everyone and everything he’s come to believe.

When Glenda and Hunter are brought together again, fireworks nearly knock both of them off their feet, and not necessarily in a good way. Glenda knows more than one secret about Hunter, and sharing the most crucial one could mean the end of their relationship before it even gets started.

Excerpt

Glenda felt the heat from Hunter’s hand on her lower back. The way he’d looked at her! It astounded her. Yes, she had grown up, but she’d never met anyone recently who’d known her back then. Hunter hadn’t really known her either, he’d just looked at her…once.

His small speech about how this would be good for her? She never looked at it like that before. All she had thought was how humiliating it might be. His reaction swayed her. Maybe.

If he, the most popular guy in school, thought she wouldn’t be humiliated, then maybe she should give it a chance. She did need to get over her stigma, leave the past in the past. After all, that was all she had been doing these last ten years – leaving her geek past behind her. Maybe Hunter was right. Face these people head on and look them right in the eye, show them what she was really made of. Not run away like the shy girl she had been back then.

They went in and walked down the halls while Glenda tried to steady her heartbeat, keep her mind focused on the task at hand instead of getting lost in the myriad of physical and emotional responses just being close to Hunter evoked. Even after ten years, not much had changed, and that not only included the appearance of the school, but her feelings for Hunter. The realization made her uneasy, to say the least, and her back radiated heat where he touched her.

The halls were still lined with Scholar’s Bowl trophies and tributes to former students, and to her surprise, her name was among them.

Book Spotlight: Sexing Up the Spy by Tina Holland @haveubeenaughty #romcom #contemporaryromance

Title:  Sexing Up The Spy
Series:  Caulfield Cowboys Prequel
Author:  Tina Holland
Genre: Contemporary Romantic Comedy
Release Date:  April 2, 2019

Blurb:
Lexi Andrews keeps her erotic writing a secret but she'll gladly risk exposure for the chance to work with “Killer” spy creator Jake Stone. While Jake is hesitant to work with
anyone, he'll meet Lexi to appease his female fans. They hatch a plan to rehearse the love scenes and give Jake's novel realism.

But what starts out as an experiment soon takes on a life of its own. Jake's deadline doesn't seem as pressing as Lexi's lovely body. Can Jake and Lexi keep their hands off each other long enough to “Sex up the Spy”?

Excerpt:

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

DING-DONG! DING-DONG!

“Lexi, are you in there!”

A muffled voice came through her dreams. Lexi’s head screamed and she was
damn uncomfortable, “Go away,” Who was at the door this late? Sounded like Jake,

“Jake, come back tomorrow!” She shouted back. Lexi rolled over. The sun blinded her.

Oh, crap! Sunlight!

She shot up like a springboard.

“I’ll be right there!” She fell to the floor with a loud thud trying to run to the door.
While she slept, Lexi’s usual thrashing tangled her up in the afghan. “Are you okay?”
Jake called from the other side.

“Fine.” She started to pull the afghan off her feet, but the knots were stuck through
her fishnets. Great, just great. She managed to raise herself up and shuffle to the door
like a penguin. She threw the door open, but the action propelled her forward. Lexi lost
her balance and collapsed once again.

*

Jake looked down at Lexi sprawled on the floor, “Are you alright?” he lowered
himself to help Lexi get to her feet.

“Sorry, I’m all tangled. The knots of the afghan got caught up in my fishnets.”

“Why are you still wearing last night’s clothes?”

Lexi turned red, “I wanted to get some cleaning done before you came over. Guess I
fell asleep.” She teetered forward, while motioning her hand around the house. Jake
caught her along her back and under her knees, lifting her against his chest.

“Where do you want to go?”

“The bedroom.”

“Lexi, I do love your line of thought.” He winked at her.

“I need to shower and change, of course,” she hit his chest playfully, “Go that way,”
Lexi pointed to the opposite wall. Jake started in the direction, “Turn right.”

Jake took in the surroundings of the room, soft green walls, dark brown wood
furniture, and sheer off-white curtains. It suited Lexi and more to the point, him. He could
seduce her in this room. At least it wasn’t pink with stuffed animals everywhere. He
shuddered remembering his first time with his high-school sweetheart, Fran Something.

Jake never was good at names.

“Do you need anything else?” Jake asked with anticipation, depositing Lexi on the
bed.

“I don’t think so.”

“Alright, I’ll go wait in the living room.”

“Okay.”

Jake no sooner closed the door than a loud THUMP came from the other side of it,

“Are you okay?” he peeked back into Lexi’s bedroom.

Lexi was face-first on the floor trying to get back up. She looked like a bright
caterpillar inching its way along the wooden floor. “It seems I need help taking off these
stockings,” she said, without even looking up.

Jake smiled wide. “My pleasure.” He helped Lexi back up onto the bed and looked
into her sea-green eyes. She seemed to stare at him mesmerized, mouth agape. Lexi
darted her pink tongue out to lick her lips. Jake let out a guttural exhale.

“The afghan,” she spoke at last.

“Of course.” Jake looked down at her black stockings and wondered how to
accomplish the task at hand without seducing Lexi. Why not seduce her? It was good
practice, and really, what was the worst that could happen? She might say ‘no’. Jake
could live with a ‘no’. He wondered if he would regret not touching her.

#BookSpotlight: Tempting Mr. Jordan by Marin McGinnis #HistoricalRomance

Blurb:
After four unsuccessful London seasons, Lady Julia Tenwick despairs of ever making a love match. With spinsterhood looming on the horizon, she and a friend set sail for America on one last adventure. When her travels take her to northern Maine, Julia meets a reclusive but handsome artist, whose rudeness masks a broken heart Julia feels compelled to mend.

Still haunted by the betrayal and death of his pregnant wife two years before, Geoffrey Jordan is determined never to risk his heart again. Certainly not with the gorgeous and impetuous aristocrat who intrudes upon his small-town solitude, and is far too similar to his late wife to tempt him to take another chance on love.

But when Julia and Geoffrey find themselves united in a reckless plan to save Julia’s friend from ruin, they discover that temptation is impossible to resist.

Excerpt:

Julia pulled her cloak around her shoulders and left by the kitchen door. Soft snowflakes danced lightly around her head as she made her way toward the water. She loved the crisp air, the snow, the scents of wood smoke, salty waves, and pine. She walked around toward the lighthouse, imagining how much her brother would love it here. He’d have his sketchbook tucked under his arm, ready to pull out at a moment’s notice when the mood struck.
The snow began to fall faster, swirling around as she clambered over the large rocks at the water’s edge. The sky was streaked with red, orange, blue, and gray, and she stopped, perched, just to watch.
“Get out of the way!”
She jumped at the strident tone, nearly toppling into the water. Regaining her balance, she turned carefully, and sighed.
Geoffrey Jordan sat on a neighboring rock behind her, sketchbook in hand. His expression was darker than the sky had been when she started on this walk. Julia was unable to stop herself from stepping back in surprise. Apparently there were bears near the shore as well.
“You’re blocking my view.” The muscles of the man’s face settled into a grimace which Julia found only marginally less frightening than his scowl.
“All right, I’m sorry! I didn’t see you there.” Julia took another step back and cried out in pain as her foot slipped into a crevice between the rocks.
Geoffrey swore and tossed his sketchbook to the side. He strode over to her and held out a hand.
Given his expression, Julia considered whether it might be safer to remain where she was. Geoffrey stuck his hand out again, waving it impatiently.
Julia finally realized she was more annoyed than afraid. “How am I supposed to grab your hand when you wave it about like that?”
“Oh, for God’s sake!” He reached down with both hands and grabbed her waist, pulling her to her feet. She ignored the tingling of her skin where he touched her and focused on her anger instead.
“I don’t know why you’re so angry at me. It’s not my fault I fell. You startled me.”
“You stepped into my line of sight. And now the sunrise is nearly gone, I’ve missed it, and it’s entirely your fault.”
Julia realized his hands still rested on her hips, and she pushed them away. “You sound like a petulant child.”
He returned to his sketchbook and sat down again. He started scribbling, ignoring her. She ignored him as well and gingerly ran a hand over her throbbing ankle. Her stocking was torn, and a shallow cut showed through it. Deciding she should return home to clean the wound, thanks to this odious man, she slowly made her way across the rocks past him. She caught a glimpse of his sketch as she passed. Intrigued, she stopped and bent at the waist, looked over his shoulder.
“You’re barely drawing anything at all. What does that say?”
He scowled again, but he answered, “Scarlet.”
She pointed at the corner of the drawing. “And that?”
“Azure. I thought all proper English ladies could read.”
“Your handwriting is terrible. What does that say?” She pointed again.
“Orange.”
She peered closer. “It does not. It looks like ‘crindle.’”
He laughed, and she turned her head to look at him. He was much less frightening when he laughed. Handsome. She blinked and unbent.
“‘Crindle’? What on earth does that mean?”
Her cheeks warmed. “Well, I don’t know, do I? It’s your drawing.”
“And it says ‘orange.’ What are you doing out here anyway?”
“I wanted to go for a walk.”
“At the crack of dawn?”
“I didn’t think I would see anyone.”
“Why didn’t you want to see anyone?”
She sighed. “Because conversation tires me, sometimes. This one in particular.”
“I don’t disagree.” He stroked his pencil across the paper a few more times, and she craned her neck to look.
“Why didn’t you just paint the sunrise? Why describe it?”
“Because the sunrise is a fleeting thing. It never lasts long enough for me to paint it, so I sketch the scene and write the names of the colors, to jog my memory when I am in my studio.”
Julia turned to look at the sky. It was gray now, with little wisps of blue and white streaked across it. All of the stunning red and orange hues were gone. She suddenly felt terrible for ruining his view.
“I am sorry I got in your way. I don’t suppose you could try again tomorrow?”
He shrugged. “A sunrise like that one is rare.”
Now she felt even worse. “Well, I am sorry.”
“Where did you think you were going? The rocks lead out into the water, and the tide will be in soon. What if you’d fallen when I wasn’t here to help? You’d have drowned.”
Shame was quickly replaced by annoyance. “I wouldn’t have fallen if you hadn’t startled me!”
“Well, it was careless.”
Julia placed both hands on her hips and stared at the insufferable man. “You haven’t a very high opinion of my intelligence, have you?”
“I have no opinion of your intelligence at all. I think you take risks that a lady shouldn’t take.”
“I was hardly doing pirouettes out here! I would have been fine if you hadn’t yelled at me.”
“I didn’t yell at you.”
“Yes, you did!”
“Fine! I’m sorry I yelled at you. Now go home, before you truly hurt yourself.” Before she could reply, he tucked his sketchbook under his arm, stood, and scrambled away across the rocks like a crab.
She watching him go, annoyed with him and herself in equal measure. Well, mostly with him. Insufferable man. She gingerly followed, lifting her skirts higher to avoid the rising water. The tide was indeed coming in.
She hated that he was right.
