Spell of Snow by S.J. Pierce ~ A Cursed All Hallows' Eve Author Spotlight Interview @sjpierce_author #CursedHallowsEve #yapnr #witch

Blurb:

Life can be a witch...

Six years ago, I discovered my powers - I can make flowers bloom. But in a world where anything magical is met with judgement and swinging from a rope, I have to be careful... until one day I wasn't. The Witch Hunters have been alerted, and now no one, including my loved ones, can save me.

My name is Rosanna Frey, Snow Queen of Ipswich, and this is my story.

Excerpt:

I’ve imagined a million times what it would be like right before you’re hanged—rope taut around your neck. Trembling like a leaf. Tears streaming. Life desperately flashing before your eyes in broken fractals; all the best and worst memories in chronological order.

But none of those daydreams were anywhere near accurate.

Numbness consumed me. If I was shaking or crying, I couldn’t tell. A self-preservation thing, to be sure.

Or maybe it was shock.

My brain didn’t register sound, my thoughts stationary.

Mouths opening and closing in front of me. Crying? Shouting. Everyone’s eyes jerked to the man beside the buggy I was standing on. He was reading aloud my crimes. Punishable by death.

Witchcraft.

I frantically searched the crowd for Jacob, my love. He didn’t come. He couldn’t bear to watch.

Some of them covered their eyes. Some looked away. Some watched on, eyes burning flames of hatred. Die, Rosanna! Satan’s seed.

Eyes screwed shut, my lips parted to release a scream, but the wood beneath my bare feet dragged away and I plummeted to my death with a soundless gasp.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Hello and welcome, readers! We have S.J. Pierce here with us today. S.J., thanks for visiting us.

How long have you been a writer and how did you come to writing?

I’ve been writing ten years! A story idea came to me, and the characters wouldn’t leave me alone until I let them out.

Tell us about your title featured in: A Cursed All Hallows’ Eve

A Spell of Snow is a YA paranormal romance set in my bestselling Captivated Series world. It’s a spin-off and a standalone. I hope you adore the characters as much as I do!

How did you come up with the storyline?

I loved the idea of exploring the same beings (angel hybrids and witches) that were in the Captivated Series but ones that lived in an earlier time and in a different place.

What inspires you to write?

Everything. Every heartbreak and happy moment. Every interaction with people and animals. Triumphs and failures…you name it. I find inspiration in all things.

Tell us about your other books:

All my series are linked together! My adult PNR, my YA PNR, and even my YA Dystopian series: They’re all in the same universe. I like for my readers to experience different facets of the same world.

Malediction by Erzabet Bishop ~ A Cursed All Hallows' Eve Author Spotlight Interview @erzabetbishop #CursedHallowsEve #shifters #witch

Blurb:

It’s witchcraft…

Nestled in the shadowy thoroughfares of Salem, Bridget has created a new life for herself. Saved from the noose by the mysterious Mr. Black during the witch trials, she runs Broomstix, a thriving curse worker and hex shop. Dangerous cravings thrust her back in harm’s way as evil stalks the streets. Will the allure of the forbidden be her curse or her salvation?

Alistair is a wolf caught between desire and duty to his pack. His Alpha goes missing and evidence of arcane magic and murder come a little too close to home. A chance encounter at a Halloween party brings his beast to the forefront and one night of passion leaves him wanting much, much more.

A war is brewing in Salem between the wolves and witch kind. When more deaths are found linked to rogue wolves, the two join forces, but wild magic reigns on Samhain and the moon may just have a mind of her own…

Excerpt:

Chapter Four

Bridget stood at the entrance to the Hawthorn Hotel, fidgeting with her cranberry red skirts. She’d bypassed the Witch’s Ball for the first time in a decade, instead opting for the Hawthorne Hotel Halloween Gala the following night. The Seven Deadly Sins theme fit a little bit better with her state of mind these days.

The thought of going to the Witch’s Ball and being surrounded by a room full of people dressed as the white rabbit or the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland made her want to close herself in her apartment above Broomstix and stay there till the season passed. Not this witch. Hells no. Not this year.

Limousines and expensive cars queued up at the entrance through the valet parking area. The red carpet to the entry door was packed with women in brightly colored gowns and glittering jewelry. Men in tuxedos held out their arms, and Bridget thought it was just the thing to get her out of the witchy politics of her everyday life.

When she’d stepped in front of the mirror after trying on the dress her best friend and fellow witch Isabel had chosen for her, she’d almost feigned a case of the flu. Except, she didn’t get sick and Isabel knew it.

“Put the dress on. And yes, the shoes too.”

Long and flowing, the dress was made for a woman with moderate assets on top, not the ones she was blessed with. They had long been a source of fascination for the various men in her life, and the undoubted reason for many of the shadowy curses carved into her body. And the heels… goddess but they were fuck me shoes and she’d be lucky if she got through the night without either breaking her ankle or falling on someone—or for them.

The shoes could be enchanted. It had happened before. Bridget knew Isabel just wanted to make sure she went out and actually had a good time, but the thought niggled. She shot her a glance.

“Did you?”

“Did I what?”

“Spell the shoes.”

“Would you stop that?” Her best friend frowned, grabbing at her hands. “You’re supposed to be Lust. Not anxiety.”

“What? Anxiety isn’t one of the seven deadlies.”

“Are you sure? Cause, I’m thinking it should be.” Isabel narrowed her eyes, witch fire glimmering in their depths.

“Okay… okay. But, if I find out you did…”

“Yeah, you’ll curse me. I know. How long have we known each other?” Isabel arched an elegant eyebrow in her direction.

True.

“What did you say your costume was again?” Bridget eyed the gorgeous dress and sidled beneath the large green overhang, avoiding the spit of October rain that decided to make an appearance.

“I didn’t,” Isabel smirked. “But, I’m Envy. Don’t you love it?”

#BookReview: The Bewitching Tale of Stormy Gale by Christine Bell #steampunk

The Bewitching Tale of Stormy Gale by Christine Bell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

 London, 1841

There I was, retired from time pirating, enjoying a full if somewhat conventional life as a wife and mother. Then a chance encounter with a stranger drew me back into a world I'd thought I'd left, quite literally, in the past. From his odd behavior and even odder answers to my questions, I knew Phineas Grubb was up to something. I should have trusted my instincts—before he pulled out a time-travel mechanism and dragged my brother, Bacon, back with him...

Salem, 1698

The infamous Witch Trials may have ended a few years earlier, but the people of Salem are still pretty touchy about outsiders that appear in town as if by magic. Thanks to Grubb, my brother's been accused of witchcraft and thrown in jail. Now it's up to me and my husband, Dev, to save Bacon's bacon before the hysteria starts up again, and the course of history is altered forever...

This novella is the sequel to The Twisted Tale of Stormy Gale which I also reviewed.

My Review:
Although you could probably read these out of order without getting too lost, I highly recommend you begin with the first. There, we meet all the major characters and we get to fall in love with Dev, who becomes Stormy's husband. The first story is definitely in my opinion a romance, the second I can't quite label as such. Dev and Stormy are already married with a precocious daughter in this book, but I was pleased to visit this world and these wonderful characters again.

Ms. Bell's writing style is riveting. From the very beginning, I'm pulled into Stormy's viewpoint where she takes me on an adventurous ride through time. With this journey she chases a suspicious time traveler back to Salem, Massachusetts, where the infamous witch trials are fresh in the memories of the residents. There she must save her brother who has been arrested as a witch, an event that threatens to ignite another mass hysteria of witch hunts. Stormy and Dev need to save Bacon and stop the rogue time traveler from messing up the events of history.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story just as much as the first. As of this moment, I don't see any more books published in this series, but I certainly hope that changes sometime in the future. I'd love to read more of Stormy's time-traveling adventures and snarky dialogue.
