Movie Vampires in A Haunting Halloween Hop #bloghop #books #prizes
I've joined a group of amazing authors to celebrate one of my favorite holidays of the year...Halloween! Be sure to check out the other authors in this blog hop for a chance to win some spooky treats, books and other great prizes!
Vampires have been one of my favorite supernatural creatures since I was at least 4 years-old. I remember watching re-runs of the 1960's gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows, with my mom every night after supper. Barnabas became my favorite vampire from that moment on!
Here are some of my other favorite vampires in cinema:
- Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) - Gary Oldman plays the title role of Dracula in this heart-breaking version where he seeks to be reunited with his beloved Elisabeta (Mina).
- Lost Boys (1987) - Two brothers discover that not all is what it seems after moving to a new town. The angst of teenage vampires! This movie stirred up a lot of vampire dreams when I was a kid and remains one of my absolute favorites!
- Interview With a Vampire (1994) A vampire tells his story to a reporter, allowing viewers to relive his birth into this dark world and witness the trials of his immortal life. A sensational movie based on the novel by Anne Rice.
- Underworld (2003) This is the first movie in a series about vampires and werewolves. There is a war between the two species. This is a seductively dark, adventurous movie with the beautiful vampire, Selene, and the human, Michael, with whom she falls in love.
- Dracula 2000 (2000) Dracula is released from his decades old entrapment to take revenge on his nemesis, Van Helsing, by seducing the man's daughter. Gerard Butler plays a handsome and hypnotic Dracula in this movie. I love the vampire origin story that we discover at the end!
- Van Helsing (2004) This movie has more than just vampires! Van Helsing is a monster hunter assigned by the church to capture supernatural creatures running amok in society. He's sent to Transylvania where he discovers Count Dracula is up to no good. This movie has an incredible cast with Hugh Jackman, Kate Beckinsale, David Wenham, and Richard Roxburgh who plays one of my favorite versions of the famous vampire.
- Dracula (1931) Bela Lugosi is the classic vampire in this tale of seduction. Count Dracula has come to England and finds Mina.
- Nosferatu (1922) This is the grandfather of all vampire movies! Count Orlok is the kind of vampire described in folktales told all around the world, before the handsome, seductive versions became popular. This is a creepy and horrific tale!
- Shadow of the Vampire (2000) This movie is the fictionalize re-telling of how the movie Nosferatu was filmed.
- Dracula Untold (2014) Prince Vlad's only solution to defeating the invading Turks is to become a monster to save his people and his family. I just watched this movie for the first time a few weeks ago. It was not what I was expecting, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
- Dracula Dead & Loving It (1995) I had to include this amusing parody in my list! Mel Brooks' version of Dracula with the talented Leslie Nielson remains one of my favorites to enjoy a good laugh. Silliness at its best!
That's my list! Have you watched any of them?
What are your favorite vampire movies?
Here's my version of the vampire written in
The Witch and the Vampire.
Melora Merriweather is
searching for a fellow witch to protect her from a scheming uncle with
plans of marriage. When her carriage overturns on her journey, she is
rescued by a mysterious man whom
she learns is the very person she seeks. But, he’s not the witch she
thought he was…
Sebastian Collins should have left for London days ago. Now a snowstorm has trapped him with a woman who has come seeking protection, a woman who intrigues him like no other. And with each passing hour, his hunger for her grows…hunger for her kiss, her caress, and her blood.
Excerpt:
Sebastian Collins should have left for London days ago. Now a snowstorm has trapped him with a woman who has come seeking protection, a woman who intrigues him like no other. And with each passing hour, his hunger for her grows…hunger for her kiss, her caress, and her blood.
Excerpt:
"You are
Sebastian Collins? Of Caldwell House?” she asked. Had she made some
horrible mistake? Who knew how old this letter might be? There had been
no date written on any of them. Could this have
come from a previous owner of the single address she had managed to
discover leading her here? But, no, it could not be possible. Her dreams
never misled her.
“Indeed, I am,” he answered, relieving her fears. He paused briefly, and then continued, “But there is no Mrs. Collins.”
Comprehension dawned. The blush of embarrassment and dread crept up her neck. To her surprise, Mr. Collins stiffened in agitation.
“I-I am truly sorry,” she stated, suddenly understanding his reaction. At least, now it made sense why Mrs. Collins never entered her dreams. “I had not realized she had passed. I apologize for the grief I have surely inflicted on you.”
“No, no,” he said, with a shake of his head. He appeared to have difficulty speaking for a moment until at last, with a deep breath, he reclaimed his composure. Still, he kept his eyes cast down, toward the fire. “You fail to understand. I have never married.”
Melora stared at him. Confused, she looked again at the letter in her hand. “But the letters…?”
This time, his head snapped up, and he looked in her direction. She inhaled sharply at the sight of his light blue eyes staring at her. Into her. Through her. Sharp. Piercing. As if he searched her soul for the answers to his questions.

The First Romance Novel I Ever Read - Spring Fling Blog Hop
Welcome to the Spring Fling Blog Hop happening March 20-23. For a full list of participants, visit Romance Blog Hops. There are over 100 blogs, so that means lots of great prizes at each stop so be sure to check them out!
Today, I've been thinking a lot about how I ended up as a romance author, meaning the books that influenced and inspired me to write. But more than that, these books inspired me to become a READER first. So, I've dug through my boxes of books that contain all of my keepers. Oh, I wish I had a room filled with shelves to display all these wonderful gems! I love to pull these books out and reminisce. It's like visiting old friends.
The first romance novel I ever read was The Romance of the Rose by Claire Delacroix. I bought it at the Hills Department store that was about a ten minute walk from my house. I can't remember exactly how old I was, somewhere between 12-15. It was after my mom died, which is one of the reasons I picked up this book.
My mother was an avid romance reader and I missed her so much. The only think I could thing of to be closer to her was to read a romance novel. It was something I'd seen her do for as long as I could remember. I used to tease her about the covers of the half-naked men and women (this was the '80s). She never hid the covers nor did she make any excuses for reading them. They were enjoyable stories. So enjoyable, she had a whole room devoted to her books. Yes, my mother had a library in our small four bedroom house. My father built the bookshelves and she filled them completely!
So, I wanted to share something with her since I missed her so much, but I never expected to become like her with my reading! I became addicted! Every week I'd check the store's shelves for more. But, it wasn't fast enough for me, so I subscribed to Harlequin Historicals to have the books delivered directly to my house. What a joy that was to receive that box of books each month! And so began my life as a romance reader. I love romance novels so much that now I write them!
And now, I can share my books with readers! If you're interested, you can find out more about my books here.
PRIZE:
I'm offering a

Blurb:
To save her sister’s life, Julia Grey seeks a spell hidden somewhere within Merriweather Manor. Her position as a lady's companion affords her the freedom to search the house. But time is running out. The necromancer she's bargained with is growing impatient. And an unexpected appearance of a man from her past makes matters worse in an already complicated situation.
Basil Merriweather returns to England after ten years abroad to discover his childhood sweetheart living in his home. But, he's no longer the carefree man of his youth and she's hiding something--deadly secrets Basil vows to uncover even as he hides a dark secret of his own.
While neither Basil nor Julia will trust in the other, their hearts speak a truer language. In a grand attempt to save Julia's sister and Basil's life, the two must finally confess sinister truths. Will their admissions help or hinder any future they may have together? Or will the necromancer destroy all in a vile attempt at revenge.
Excerpt:
"What are you doing?"
He ignored her frantic questioning. Instead, he blocked out the sound of her voice and raised his arms into the air at his sides, his fingers splayed out as he extended his senses to scan the area. His power eased out, like extensions of his fingertips, stretching into the corners of the room, seeking, searching for the source of the magic he sensed.
It was here. Somewhere.
He had sensed it earlier on his arrival, but being that his aunt and siblings practiced magic on a regular basis he'd never given it a second thought.
This room, however, stank with it. He smelled the odor, something strangely like sulfur...
"A spell has been cast in this room," he muttered. A strange spell. Odd. A spell he'd never sensed before, something new. It felt off in some way he couldn't explain. Who would be working new magic of this kind in his home? And, in this room in particular. Aunt Petunia worked her spells in the privacy of her rooms upstairs, or sometimes in the gardens, but never in this room. And his siblings each practiced in their own private settings, places where they could concentrate without the threat of being disturbed.
He took a step closer to the center of the room where he sensed a surge of power. He shivered as coldness seeped into his skin. It wrapped around his arm, sinking into his flesh, right down to the bone.
The magic in his house was always full of warmth and gentleness. Goodness and love. This magic chilled him to the bone. His heart skipped a beat. There was fear, terror, pain.
This spell was full of darkness.

Sign-up for A Very Paranormal Holidays Blog Hop!
Kallysten and I are at it again! Everyone had such fun and success with our summer blog hop that we decided to get together to host another for the winter. This time we've got a blog hop arranged just in time for the Holidays!
Join us in celebrating our love for the paranormal by sharing prizes with our readers for the holidays! With the help of all who join, this blog hop has a fantastic GRAND PRIZE available! This event takes place December 15-30 giving readers lots of time to read your blogs and enter for a chance to win those giveaways!
I've included the info here, but you can also visit the page Kallysten set up for A Very Paranormal Holidays Blog Hop to sign-up.
Do your heroes and heroines have fangs or fur... or fins? Do they play with magic or forces that aren't quite part of the real world? Do you like to dwell on the paranormal side of things? And most importantly, do you want to offer a lucky reader (or more!) a pretty awesome prize for the holidays? Then keep reading for the rules!
This hop will have the usual prizes on each individual blog but also a 'big prize' in the form of a Kindle Fire device. Which device exactly will depend on how many participants we get. Depending on the amount of $$ gathered, we'll either have a more expensive model or two kindles/winners. We'll announce it when the sign-up period ends.
*** A very important rule is that a contribution of $5 (US $) toward buying the prize(s) is MANDATORY for all blog owners participating. Tricia and Kallysten will cover the remaining amount after the contributions are in. The contribution MUST be in by the time the sign-ups end. (Authors, remember you may be entitled to claim this on your taxes as part of your expenses for publicity.)
Contributions can be made through Paypal to kally@kallysten.net. Please note: make sure you choose 'I'm sending money to family or friends' to minimize fees, and/or when given the option choose to pay the fee yourself. 50 cents is not much if it's once, but if I had to pay the fees from everyone on top of my own contribution that'd be more than I can afford to spend.
Want to participate but don't have Paypal? Email me at kally@kallysten.net and we'll think of something.
If your name/email on Paypal is different from your writing name, be sure to shoot me an email so I can match authors/bloggers and contributions.
*** Add your link to the list at the bottom of this post. Include INT or US by your name to let hoppers know if your individual giveaway is for the US only or International.
*** Copy this code and post the hop badge on your blog's sidebar.
*** On December 15th, publish your hop post. It can be anything you want. An excerpt, a post about why you like reading/writing stories about paranormal, a list of your favorite paranormal movies or books, anything you want as long as it fits our paranormal theme. And of course, include a giveaway! The post MUST be live by 10am Eastern on December 15th. I won't delete links since everyone participating contributes to the big prize, but if you don't have a post for the hop there will be a mention in the list of links about it. I'll send the code for the links list when the sign ups close.
*** We are open to M/F, M/M and any combination thereof. The giveaway starts December 15th and ends December 30th, 2013.
*** You are responsible for your own giveaway. That includes running it, providing the prizes and contacting the winners afterwards.
*** The winner(s) for the big prize will be chosen with a Rafflecopter form. The form will have entries to be earned from every participating blog. You get to decide what people need to do to get your entry: like your FB page, follow you on twitter, type in a code word you provide on your blog, etc. Just let me know through email. I'll contact you if you forget to tell me.
Remember:
- sign up here
- add the banner to your blog
- send in your contribution
- tell me what Rafflecopter option you want
