SKARDE
I was surrounded by weapons faster than I thought possible. A few of the guards were fast but those Vertills were even faster than we previously thought! It was my first time seeing any face-to-face, and I made a mental note to study more about that species.
The guards were all of different races and species, save for their uniforms. Clearly they were UGP guards. But what was the UGP doing on this Hel-forsaken planet?
I should have been relieved at finding potential safety, but really I had more questions than answers, at this point. However, I was currently in no shape to protest and I knew my people had agreements in place to assist in guaranteeing my safety.
They escorted me towards an open doorway. There was a being waiting there that they appeared to hold in some form of esteem. As we approached, I could tell it was quite small, and its skin was greenish, but I could not understand what I was seeing until they marched me right up to it.
It was a small hairless being in a strange cooking apron. A female, if my guess was correct.
She stepped up close enough to me that I was tempted to take a step back. But not with lasers pointed at me. I was wary, not completely stupid.
I peered down at her tiny self. She had greenish-gray skin, and no hair. Her limbs were long and her eyes were large and shaped like almandrs. She appeared to wear a simple tunic dress under her rather odd apron.
I had no idea what she wanted from me but she seemed more curious than ferocious. Was she a native?
She looked me up and down, clucking lightly to herself as she took in my wounds, my torn clothing, and my overall condition. She shook her head, a frown at her thin lips.
“What took you so long?” she asked in my home language. “We expected you stunds ago. You need a doctor. This is good!” She made a pleased chirping sound, turned towards a doorway in the gray wall, and left me standing there, staring at her.
It was good that I was bloody and battered, and needed a doctor? Maybe I wasn’t as safe with these people as I thought.
“Come! We will take you to the doctor.” She stared at me from the entryway, waiting.
I was… reluctant.
“I have hot orjweat to drink, and I made graht cakes. You will come if you want them.” She nodded once, smiled sweetly at me, and turned to walk into the compound.
Food, drink, and a doctor were being offered, and I was scared to follow a tiny female into a building to get it. With a cluster of guards at my back.
My Vikingr parents would be shaking their heads at me and sighing. Not to say I was a disappointment to my entire tribe but… I also wasn’t about to win any commendations for bravery.
Hell, I would be lucky to not find myself charged with murder once I escaped and make my way back to my ship and Jarl Leke.
I gathered my nerves, tightly gripped my remaining axe, and jogged in after her hoping I wasn’t walking into an ambush.
The armed guards followed.
