Favorite Quotes from Books #Booklovers

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews.

Today's topic: My Favorite Quotes from Books

Here are a few. You can read the rest that I have listed on Goodreads.

"What I lack in expertise I make up for in desperation and tenacity, because I only get paid when catch someone." ~Janet Evanovich, Turbo Twenty-Three

"If only there could be an invention that bottled up a memory, like scent. And it never faded, and it never got stale. And then, when one wanted it, the bottle could be uncorked, and it would be like living the moment all over again." ~Daphne du Maurier, Rebecca

"I will not let you go into the unknown alone." ~Bram Stoker, Dracula

"This is true love - you think this happens every day?" ~Westley from William Goldman's, The Princess Bride

"I have found for the first time what I can truly love - I have found you. You are my sympathy - my better self - my good angel - I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I think you good, gifted, lovely; a fervant, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring of life, wrap my existence about you - and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one." ~Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre

"Let us never underestimate the power of a well-written letter." ~Jane Austen, Persuasion

"Do not give way to useless alarm; though it is right to be prepared for the worst, there is no occasion to look on it as certain." ~Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

"I can listen no longer in silence. I must speak to you by such means as are within my reach. You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it, eight years and a half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant. You alone have brought me to Bath. For you alone, I think and plan. Have you not seen this? Can you fail to have understood my wishes? I had not waited even these ten days, could I have read your feelings, as I think you must have penetrated mine. I can hardly write. I am every instant hearing something which overpowers me. You sink your voice, but I can distinguish the tones of that voice when they would be lost on others. Too good, too excellent creature! You do us justice, indeed. You do believe that there is true attachment and constancy among men. Believe it to be most fervent, most undeviating, in F.W.

I must go, uncertain of my fate; but I shall return hither, or follow your party, as soon as possible. A word, a look, will be enough to decide whether I enter your father's house this evening or never." ~Jane Austen, Persuasion

And because it's my blog and I can, here's one of my favorite quotes from my own books...

"I was not born a werewolf. I was not bitten, at least, not that I can remember. I am cursed. There, I've said it. You may now run to fetch the masses. You cannot allow such a creature to exist among women and children and innocent men. Stock up those silver bullets and do your worst." ~The Witch and the Wolf

Happy Reading!

Fictional Worlds I'd Love to Visit

Today's topic: Fictional Worlds I'd Love to Visit

Authors are magicians and hypnotists, in my opinion. They have the ability to create worlds with words. Worlds that readers can imagine, see, hear, touch, taste. We can find ourselves immersed in the world of the author's imagination. Sometimes, we'd like to go there for real!

Here are some of my favorite fictional worlds that I'd like to visit.

Hogwarts

3. sy475

What Harry Potter fan doesn't want to visit the school where wizards and witches learn to use magical spells? However, I'd be worried about getting lost with all those staircases moving. My favorite class? Potions with Professor Snape.

Regency England

110384

The lives and loves of this close-knit family have fascinated me since the first time I read a sample chapter of Romancing Mister Bridgerton. I fell in love with Colin at the same moment as Penelope. And because I'm a true fan, I would like to experience the agony of the Smith-Smythe musicale, just for the pure sake of having the experience.

The Fire Swamp

21787

I've been interested in the world where the Dread Pirate Roberts sails the seas since I was a kid. Did I ever tell you that I think the Fire Swamp would be a great place to live? The trees are quite lovely.

Bon Temps, Louisiana

4602032

I've spent many years traveling to Bon Temps, Louisiana in my imagination with each book I've read. There are so many interesting characters in this little town. Of course, you need to stop by Merlotte's Bar to experience all the town has to offer. Just watch out for the vampires. Among other things!

Trenton, New Jersey

6853

Whenever I need a tremendous laugh, I visit Stephanie Plum in Trenton, New Jersey. There is no doubt that I will be laughing out loud and the antics of Stephanie, Lula and Grandma Mazur. Not to mention the many other zany characters in these books. I'd really enjoy having supper with Stephanie's mom and the rest of her family. Especially when she makes meatloaf. Afterward, there will be some exciting mystery that needs to be solved. Hopefully, Joe Morelli or Ranger will help out.

 Happy Reading!

New Release! Classic Galactic: Classical Lit with a Galactic Twist by @AshKrafton

Classic Galactic: Classical Lit with a Galactic Twist by [Krafton, Ash]

A new collection of speculative poetry from Ash Krafton! CLASSIC GALACTIC is a collection of science fiction and fantasy poetry inspired by classical literature. Ever wonder what Robert Frost or William Shakespeare would have written about if they'd been sci fi geeks? Ash Krafton wonders about that all the time...and finally did something about it. Enjoy these and other poetic explorations of the words that dwell in the vast dark emptiness of both out and inner space.

Ash Krafton
USA Today and international best-selling author Ash Krafton is a writer of all things spec fic. She believes spectacular endings make the best beginnings... Why not? One billion black holes can't be wrong.

The second bravest thing she's ever done was volunteering to go first when her Girl Scout troop visited a High Ropes challenge course somewhere back in the eighties. (Thankfully, few photos exist.) The third bravest thing was wearing her purple Colin Stuart boots with the extreme stiletto heel to her kids' school open house one year. (Three floors, all steps, no brakes.) The top of the Brave Things list, however, remains to be written.

Summer Fun - Favorite Things to Do

Today's topic: Favorite Things to do in the Summer

My favorite things to do in the summer always involve my children. While I have three active Scouts, we typically have a summer filled with camping, hiking, fishing, swimming and all sorts of outdoor activities. The school where my kids attend also offers summer programs. There are trips to the local vocational school where they attend workshops and learn new skills. And every year, I enroll my kids in swimming lessons. I love watching them glow with pride at the new abilities they learn as they advance through the levels. I call them my little fish, although my daughter argues that she's a mermaid.

Our amusement park of choice is Knoebels Grove. With free admission and free parking, you can't really go wrong here. Pay only for the rides you want to go on or buy an all day pass. Set in a beautiful shady grove, it provides a much needed respite from the summer sun and heat. There's rides for all ages. I've been going here since I was a kid. My favorite is still the Haunted House!

I've become an expert at searching the local community websites for free or low cost activities. With four kids, prices always add up. Lucky for us, there are many fun things to do.

There's a movie theater that offers $1 days. There are low cost craft activities at some of the local stores. With enough searching, I found free tours at nearby museums. There are also some battlefields that are close, such as Gettysburg, where the kids and I can walk and learn about history. I'm also quite knowledgeable about the local ghost activity which is fun to talk about with the kids. When they're older, I'd love to take them on some ghost tours!

I also love attending Native American Pow-wows. There are always a few scheduled nearby. Some are free, some are a low admission. Then we spend the day watching the dancers, listening to the music, talking to the people and admiring their crafts and other items. There's usually some games. Throwing a tomahawk is fun! I'm a natural. And then there's the dancing. My kids and I often dance within the circle with the other dancers. My favorite part of the event!

Do you know what my kid's favorite activity is in the summer? The one thing they ask for again and again?

A picnic.

That's it.

I took them on a picnic a couple of years ago in a park near a covered bridge not far from my home. It was an impromptu event. We were in the area doing some shopping and we were hungry. Instead of sitting in a crowded restaurant, we grabbed some food through the drive-thru and settled on a picnic bench in a peaceful park with huge trees and a river flowing beneath the old covered bridge. It was a tranquil, lovely summer day.

And my kids continue to mention it every summer.

So, a simple picnic is a must. We've done this lots of times now. Usually, it's at a park with a walking path of sorts, so we'll eat our food on a bench or a table if there's one or we'll grab a blanket from the car and settle on the grass. After we're done eating, we talk a walk and enjoy nature.

I always look forward to summer because the kids are home from school. We don't have all the homework or tests to study for. Everyone can relax and just enjoy life.

Happy Reading!

Bite Me, I'm a Vampire - Win a Kindle Fire #Giveaway #VampireRomance

Vampires Never Die

Vampire Romance is hot once again and there are tons of books to fulfill that lustful craving readers have for those undead bad boys.

You can check out the wonderful selection of titles at Always Write Club as well as enter for a chance to win a Kindle Fire!

The Witch and the Vampire

Melora Merriweather is searching for a fellow witch to protect her from a scheming uncle with plans of marriage. When her carriage overturns on her journey, she is rescued by a mysterious man whom she learns is the very person she seeks. But, he's not the witch she thought he was...
Sebastian Collins should have left for London days ago. Now, a snowstorm has trapped him with a woman who has come seeking protection, a woman who intrigues him like no other. And with each passing hour, his hunger for her grows...hunger for her kiss, her caress, and her blood.

A sigh escaped her lips as she traced one finger along his cold white cheek, marveling at the tiny shocks that trembled through her hands at the contact.

“I’m afraid,” he muttered, turning back to look at her. “I will kill you.”

She shook her head. “You won’t. I trust you.”

“I do not.”

She leaned down to place her lips on his, thrilling at the feel of his cold lips against hers. “I won’t let you,” she told him, smiling into his mouth. “I’m a witch, you know. I can stop you if I have to.”

When she tilted her head back, she saw the understanding brighten his blue eyes. Trust and hope flared in his eyes, and she was amazed at how innocent he looked as he slowly sat up, curling her into his embrace. He seemed like a young boy, unsure but willing to allow her to lead him into the dark unknown.

“I do not know if I’ll have the strength to stop. Are you certain you can stop me before…?” He asked, unwilling to complete the thought. He leaned over her, nuzzling her cheek, taking deep gulping breaths, inhaling her scent. His hands trembled as he held her. She wrapped her arms around him, holding him tight against her.

“Yes,” she breathed, tilting her head to the side, allowing him easier access to the vein pulsing in her neck.

He paused only a moment more, and then kissed her throat. His tenderness warmed her. The gentleness in his touch awed her. He suffered so much. He had hungered for so long, and yet he found the strength to gently ease his bloodlust upon her. With another tender kiss, she felt the piercing of his teeth puncturing her skin.
