2022! Can you believe it!?

I'm still blinking my eyes that 2021 is gone already. Where did that year go!?

Now, that the new year has arrived, it's time for me to think yet again about my goals and resolutions. Of which, I have many. Let's face it, I'm an overachiever, but also a procrastinator. Yeah. Not an ideal combination! Somehow I manage to squeak by, so here's hoping I manage it for 2022, too!

I've learned in the last few years that I don't like to make announcements of the books I'm writing until I'm actually finished writing them. I've had more than enough trouble with some books. I start them, and then something happens that it's not working, or life gets in the way, or insert-problem-here, and the book is delayed. Sometimes weeks, sometimes months. That's why I don't like to set up preorders unless the book is finished, edited and has a cover. Otherwise, there are just no guarantees!

This also goes with boxed sets! I've recently had a few multi-author boxed sets fall apart because the coordinator(s) had something (again insert-problem-here moment) happen, and the sets just fell apart. And I understand! Life happens! But, I don't want to tell my readers about a project and get their hopes up unless I see that preorder up and ready to go!

That being said, I'm participating in plenty more boxed sets this year (as long as we're all good to go!), as well as quite a few of my own projects.

The first few months of the year are already filled up! Alpha Shifters Furever will be releasing February

1, 2022, followed by Shifting Hearts on February 28, 2022. There's also a paranormal romance freebie in the works, but I don't have a release date for that one, yet. 

 

After that, I have a schedule filled with more sets, but some of the release dates are uncertain. I'll announce them when I have a firm date. Altogether, (if things go well), I'm looking at possibly ten multi-author boxed set collections this year. I believe nearly all of them are paranormal romance or sci-fi romance with maybe a few historical paranormal romances thrown here or there.

Readers have been asking for the Cougar Shifters!

What happened? Why is there only one book? Does Cody get a story?

That series has caused me enough trouble that I'm using it as a great learning experience. I wrote the books out of order! Not intentionally, but when I realized it, I knew I couldn't release them until I had them in the proper order. Which meant a major delay. My many apologies! Now, I have them sorted. I have two more to go in the series, but I'm waiting for my cover designer to create her fantastic covers (I love her work!), and then I'll get them set up for preorder ASAP.

I'm also challenging myself with a rather new writing venture. I started writing for Kindle Vella late last year. I began releasing my dystopian paranormal romance, Into the Dark, in late November. There are currently 10 episodes available to read (the first 3 are FREE!), with more to come!

I hope you'll join me on this adventure! And if you do, please like the episodes and follow. It's the only way I'll know if you're enjoying it and want more!

Okay, well, that was a lot! And there will be more to come this year, maybe even an unexpected story or two. Who knows!? I never know where the muse will take me! :)

This week's topic: My Goals for 2021

I wasn't going to write a New Year's Resolution this year because last year Covid-19 interrupted my plans (I had been doing really well losing weight until the pandemic began!). But that's not to say I don't have goals for this year.

My writing goals continue. I've already signed contracts for several boxed sets for this year and I have my ongoing series that I want to continue. 

My goal is to write as much as possible and enjoy myself while doing it. I love writing! It's really like playtime for me. And I want to succeed financially with my writing. You know, be able to pay bills and buy food. That living thing that we all must do. :)

I wrote about what I have coming up this year in a blog post last week which you can read here.

I have several boxed sets that I've joined with other authors this year. I'm also going to be writing more in The Cougar Shifters series. I have another sci-fi romance series I'm working on. Plus, I have a few standalone novellas that I'll be publishing throughout the year.

It promises to be a busy year as long as we don't have any unknown disasters strike such as alien invasions or a zombie apocalypse. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and I'm focusing on happy thoughts. We don't need another 2020. Happy thoughts, y'all! Stay healthy and keep a positive attitude!

Year 2020 In Review Author Update #NewRelease #amwriting

I've been taking some time to look back at the year 2020, searching for some good things that happened this year. While it's been an extremely trying year, I am happy to see that I succeeded many of the goals that I'd given myself.

This year, I pushed myself like no other. It's been challenging, but I made it! This year, I took my first step into self-publishing. While I've been traditionally published with small presses for ten years, I knew this was the next step in my journey as an author.

Loving Boone was my debut self-published novel. I'm incredibly proud of all the work I put into it. I'm also very grateful for those who helped me make it a reality! Self-publishing is not a solo path! I have a team of people who help me and I never would have made it without them. I am incredibly grateful to Ash Krafton for all of her help and encouragement along the way. I never would have taken this step without her guidance.

I've also discovered I have a slight addiction for multi-author projects. I enjoy writing stories for calls for submissions that I might not otherwise write. These projects push me in new directions and keep my writing fresh and exciting. 

New projects, new directions, new challenges. It's been an exciting year in regards to my writing.

At times, I didn't think I'd be able to do it. No one planned for a global pandemic when we were writing our New Year's goals and resolutions last January. Somehow, through sheer force of will I think, I managed to keep writing despite the depression and anxiety that came along with learning about Covid-19. Add to that the struggle of being a single mom of four children. Homeschooling (which I freely admit, I did not go to school to become a teacher and there is a reason for that!) as well as self-isolating and taking every precaution and more to keep my children safe, educated and entertained. It was a lot to take this year.

Taking my writing to that next level is both exhilarating and frightening. But, I would never be able to do it without readers. I've been shown such kindness and encouragement from readers that it truly brings tears to my eyes. For every email, comment and review I've received this year, I am so grateful for everyone who has turned a page in one of my books and read those words that I worked countless hours on.
