Happy New Year 2022! #goals #NewYearsResolutions #writinggoals

2022! Can you believe it!?

I'm still blinking my eyes that 2021 is gone already. Where did that year go!?

Now, that the new year has arrived, it's time for me to think yet again about my goals and resolutions. Of which, I have many. Let's face it, I'm an overachiever, but also a procrastinator. Yeah. Not an ideal combination! Somehow I manage to squeak by, so here's hoping I manage it for 2022, too!

I've learned in the last few years that I don't like to make announcements of the books I'm writing until I'm actually finished writing them. I've had more than enough trouble with some books. I start them, and then something happens that it's not working, or life gets in the way, or insert-problem-here, and the book is delayed. Sometimes weeks, sometimes months. That's why I don't like to set up preorders unless the book is finished, edited and has a cover. Otherwise, there are just no guarantees!

This also goes with boxed sets! I've recently had a few multi-author boxed sets fall apart because the coordinator(s) had something (again insert-problem-here moment) happen, and the sets just fell apart. And I understand! Life happens! But, I don't want to tell my readers about a project and get their hopes up unless I see that preorder up and ready to go!

That being said, I'm participating in plenty more boxed sets this year (as long as we're all good to go!), as well as quite a few of my own projects.

The first few months of the year are already filled up! Alpha Shifters Furever will be releasing February
1, 2022, followed by Shifting Hearts on February 28, 2022. There's also a paranormal romance freebie in the works, but I don't have a release date for that one, yet.

After that, I have a schedule filled with more sets, but some of the release dates are uncertain. I'll announce them when I have a firm date. Altogether, (if things go well), I'm looking at possibly ten multi-author boxed set collections this year. I believe nearly all of them are paranormal romance or sci-fi romance with maybe a few historical paranormal romances thrown here or there.

Readers have been asking for the Cougar Shifters!

What happened? Why is there only one book? Does Cody get a story?

That series has caused me enough trouble that I'm using it as a great learning experience. I wrote the books out of order! Not intentionally, but when I realized it, I knew I couldn't release them until I had them in the proper order. Which meant a major delay. My many apologies! Now, I have them sorted. I have two more to go in the series, but I'm waiting for my cover designer to create her fantastic covers (I love her work!), and then I'll get them set up for preorder ASAP.

I'm also challenging myself with a rather new writing venture. I started writing for Kindle Vella late last year. I began releasing my dystopian paranormal romance, Into the Dark, in late November. There are currently 10 episodes available to read (the first 3 are FREE!), with more to come!

I hope you'll join me on this adventure! And if you do, please like the episodes and follow. It's the only way I'll know if you're enjoying it and want more!

Okay, well, that was a lot! And there will be more to come this year, maybe even an unexpected story or two. Who knows!? I never know where the muse will take me! :)

Thank you for reading! As always, I'm ever so grateful for your continued support!

Happy New Year!

Much love,
Tricia

2021 Goals #LongandShortReviews #BlogChallenge

This week's topic: My Goals for 2021

I wasn't going to write a New Year's Resolution this year because last year Covid-19 interrupted my plans (I had been doing really well losing weight until the pandemic began!). But that's not to say I don't have goals for this year.

My writing goals continue. I've already signed contracts for several boxed sets for this year and I have my ongoing series that I want to continue.

My goal is to write as much as possible and enjoy myself while doing it. I love writing! It's really like playtime for me. And I want to succeed financially with my writing. You know, be able to pay bills and buy food. That living thing that we all must do. :)

I wrote about what I have coming up this year in a blog post last week which you can read here.

I have several boxed sets that I've joined with other authors this year. I'm also going to be writing more in The Cougar Shifters series. I have another sci-fi romance series I'm working on. Plus, I have a few standalone novellas that I'll be publishing throughout the year.

It promises to be a busy year as long as we don't have any unknown disasters strike such as alien invasions or a zombie apocalypse. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and I'm focusing on happy thoughts. We don't need another 2020. Happy thoughts, y'all! Stay healthy and keep a positive attitude!

Sneak Peek 2021! See what's coming soon! #AuthorUpdate #romancebooks #amwriting

Since 2020 threw me several curve balls (well, who would have thought we'd live through a year such as this!), my New Year's resolutions and goals changed considerably throughout the year. I still accomplished way more than I thought possible (see my New Year's Eve post), but I decided I'm not going to make a list of resolutions and goals in quite the same way as I did before.

Instead, I'm going to let readers have a sneak peek at what I'm planning for 2021. Of course, these plans might change. I'm a single mom of 4 kids, I've learned to be flexible in making plans because inevitably something goes awry. Sometimes, I've found, it's better to be spontaneous!

However, I'm really excited about 2021! I want to share some of the projects that I'll be working on.

First off, I have a short story releasing January 6th! A great way to start the year off with a bang! If you haven't already, you can hop over to Amazon to pre-order Captured and Captivated: A Limited Edition Collection of Alien Abduction Romances.

This year, I'm focusing primarily on shifters and aliens. I'm still working on The Cougar Shifter series. Book 2 was delayed due to the pandemic and I found myself struggling to complete it. Readers have asked about when it will be released and while I don't have a date set at the moment, I can say it will be in 2021.

I also have 2 sci-fi romance series in the works. These have been on my list of things to do for a long, long time. This is the year, I think that they need to be written. Aliens are all the rage, as shown by the fans of Stolen and Seduced with over 200 ratings on Goodreads! I'm excited to venture into sci-fi territory. It's always been a passion of mine. I'm a huge fan of shows like Doctor Who, Farscape, Firefly and the Stargate and Star Trek Universes. I've always wanted to write stories like these. I feel like 2021 is the year to take my writing in a new direction.

But, that doesn't mean I'm giving up on my paranormal passion! Far from it! This year, along with shifters, I have stories planned with vampires, witches, demons and maybe even angels! And I have a post-apocalyptic story that is itching to be told. I'm not sure if anyone is interested in that particular sub-genre with the way things are right now, but I really love this story! I might sit on that one for a while, or I might just throw it out there to share with you. I haven't decided. What do you think? A post-apocalyptic romance? Too soon?

I've also got several contests lined up for 2021. I know my readers love those contests and giveaways! If you want to get those notices, you can join my newsletter. Every month, I send it to let readers know about my new releases and contests.

So, that's what I've got brewing so far. As I said, things may change. I don't ever write anything in stone these days. In the meantime, there are some books that are currently up for pre-order. You can take advantage of pre-ordering them and adding them to your TBR list now!

I wish you many blessings and good fortune in this new year! I hope you all live healthy, happy and your dreams come true!

Happy New Year!

Year 2020 In Review Author Update #NewRelease #amwriting

I've been taking some time to look back at the year 2020, searching for some good things that happened this year. While it's been an extremely trying year, I am happy to see that I succeeded many of the goals that I'd given myself.

This year, I pushed myself like no other. It's been challenging, but I made it! This year, I took my first step into self-publishing. While I've been traditionally published with small presses for ten years, I knew this was the next step in my journey as an author.

Loving Boone was my debut self-published novel. I'm incredibly proud of all the work I put into it. I'm also very grateful for those who helped me make it a reality! Self-publishing is not a solo path! I have a team of people who help me and I never would have made it without them. I am incredibly grateful to Ash Krafton for all of her help and encouragement along the way. I never would have taken this step without her guidance.

I've also discovered I have a slight addiction for multi-author projects. I enjoy writing stories for calls for submissions that I might not otherwise write. These projects push me in new directions and keep my writing fresh and exciting.

New projects, new directions, new challenges. It's been an exciting year in regards to my writing.

At times, I didn't think I'd be able to do it. No one planned for a global pandemic when we were writing our New Year's goals and resolutions last January. Somehow, through sheer force of will I think, I managed to keep writing despite the depression and anxiety that came along with learning about Covid-19. Add to that the struggle of being a single mom of four children. Homeschooling (which I freely admit, I did not go to school to become a teacher and there is a reason for that!) as well as self-isolating and taking every precaution and more to keep my children safe, educated and entertained. It was a lot to take this year.

Taking my writing to that next level is both exhilarating and frightening. But, I would never be able to do it without readers. I've been shown such kindness and encouragement from readers that it truly brings tears to my eyes. For every email, comment and review I've received this year, I am so grateful for everyone who has turned a page in one of my books and read those words that I worked countless hours on.

Thank you! Seriously, I cannot thank you enough! I appreciate every one of you!

New Year, New Goals 2019 #AuthorUpdate #NewYearResolutions

Usually I blog about my New Year's Resolutions within the first week of the New Year, but I needed to take some time to evaluate my goals. I looked over my many accomplishments for 2017. You can see that post here. This year I have a lot more planned. I'm more ambitious than ever and I hope to make 2019 a successful year!

I haven't announced this yet, but I've recently signed a contract for two new romance novels to be released in a boxed set collection. I've had stories published in anthologies, but these will be my first boxed sets, so I'm eager to see how different these projects are from each other. I'm very excited to be a part of this!

I've mentioned before that I want to dip my toes into self-publishing. Well, this is the year I'm taking the plunge. I've been writing like crazy this last year and I've collected several stories that I want start releasing. I'm gathering a list of beta readers. If you're interested in reading unpolished stories with a critical eye, you can shoot me an e-mail to request being part of my list. All of my stories are romance, but I write in several subgenres. To date, the stories are paranormal, historical, gothic, sci-fi, contemporary, fantasy and apocalyptic. If you're interested in a specific subgenre, also mention that in your email.

Okay, so moving on to my goals.

This year, I plan to...

  • Publish these nearly finished books
    • Regency Paranormal Romance about a werewolf - included in the Boxed Set
    • Paranormal Romance - TBA - included in the Boxed Set
    • Paranormal Romance with Witches and Zombies
    • Paranormal Romance with Cougar Shapeshifters
    • Victorian Paranormal Romance with a Ghost
    • Fantasy Romance set in Middle Ages
    • Contemporary Holiday Romance
    • Historical Romance with Pirates (possibly - this one needs more work than the others)
  • Write 2 - 3 new novels
    • Sci-fi Romance with an Alien
    • Paranormal Romance with Witches and Zombies (Book 2)
    • TBA - I want to leave this open for that moment when inspiration hits
  • Blog more regularly
    • Last year I participated in the Insecure Writer's Support Group (#IWSG) and Marketing For Romance Writers (#MFRWAuthors). While these two groups and their monthly/weekly posts kept me somewhat consistent with blogging, I want to add more content for my readers. This year I want to continue those posts and re-introduce guest bloggers and author/book spotlights. These posts were always popular in the past. I also plan to write more content about my books, writing, research and personal life/interests. Also, more #BookReviews. Readers love those posts and I love reading more books!
  • Learn more about Marketing
    • Read more Marketing books
    • Attend Workshops and Conferences
    • Research Marketing websites
  • Network with Authors and Readers
    • Guest Blogging/Author Spotlights/Book Spotlights
    • Join Blog Hops and other events
    • More Giveaways! Readers are important to me and I want them to know it!
  • And most importantly...

This seems like an ambitious list and I hope I can achieve all or most of it. I'm pretty flexible, so I'm constantly rearranging my plans and schedules. That's mostly because I have 4 kids who keep me busy.

What are your goals for 2019? I'd love to hear about them!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Scheduling Writing Time #IWSG #writerslife

The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day.
The Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

IWSG Asks: What steps have you taken to put a schedule in place for your writing and publishing?

Scheduling my writing has always been challenging. I've written blog posts about this subject many times in an effort try to sort it out. I run a busy household with 4 young children and a husband who has a growing list of hobbies. My writing isn't consider 'important' to my family, so I need to work in my writing time whenever I get a spare moment. Somehow, I manage. I wrote an entire novel in 15 minute increments one summer because I have no one to watch my children while I write.

Now, that my children are getting older, they're getting more supportive. Over the holiday vacation, I managed to get an hour of writing in the morning while my kids watched TV and played. They did their best to keep each other occupied so they little ones wouldn't interrupt me. I sat at the kitchen table while they stayed in the living and dining room, fetching drinks whenever they ventured into the kitchen. I managed to complete a 6500 short story. It's not an ideal situation, but I do what I have to do.

That seems to be the motto of my life...I do what I have to do to get things done.

This year, I'm going to push myself more. My life is in turmoil right now with certain family matters that are out of my control. And I foresee many changes in the future. Writing keeps me sane, so I'm planning to focus as much as my free time on writing as I'm able. That free time might become even more scarce as I'm going to have more responsibilities, but I love writing too much to give it up. And, since I was a teenager, I've wanted to write and publish books. I'm living my dream. Now, its time to make that dream live for me.

Since we've just welcomed a New Year, I'm re-evaluating my writing life. I'm working on a list of goals. I'll post those next week. I'm also scheduling a calendar of promotion for my books and my blog. I want to help other authors promote their books, too. And, I'm working on a 5-year business plan. I haven't done one of those for a while, so I figure I'm due.

My advice to other writers...

Even if you can only write for 15 minutes a day, do it! Those 15 minutes add up. Whether its in the morning, afternoon, night, during your lunch break at work or maybe while the baby is napping. It doesn't matter. Keep your writing close by at all times so its easy to open a notebook or screen and get right to it. If you have no one to help you find the time, then you have to find the time yourself.

I hope everyone has a Healthy and Prosperous New Year filled with writing and reading!

Keep a weather eye open for Pirates: A Boys Behaving Badly anthology.

New Goals for 2017 - Author Update #newyear #resolutions

With the start of a New Year, comes a time of reflection and planning. We often look back over the last year to evaluate what we've achieved or didn't achieve. Then we look forward to the coming year and the infinite possibilities that it brings.

Good-bye 2016

From what I understand, 2016 has been an extremely tough year for many of us for different reasons. Aside from the long list of celebrity deaths that seemed to occur on a clockwork basis, I've talked to many people who've had a rough year, too. From losing jobs to failing health, there are many of my friends who needed some extra prayers and positive thoughts sent their way to help them cope.

In the Schneider household, we had our share of difficulties. My husband was in a motorcycle accident and had 2 separate surgeries, all of which put him out of work with no pay. Not such an easy thing for a growing family. I won't even begin to discuss the most recent discovery of the theft of royalties from the ARe debacle. You can read about that here and here. That hit many authors, publishers and readers quite severely. To add to the struggle of having a reduced income was the string of bad luck concerning our appliances. The list of broken down appliances is almost amusing. Two air conditioners, a dehumidifier for an overly damp basement and the washing machine broke down exactly a week prior to the dryer as if they had conspired together to make life as challenging as possible for us. I've been spending a small fortune at the local laundromat for several months. I'm there with my kids several hours each week to clean clothes for 6 people. If I had the chance to save that money instead, I might've been able to buy 3 or 4 washers and dryers by now.

C'est la vie.

On the bright side, I've managed to keep a positive outlook on every negative thing that happened using my talent of viewing the world through rose-colored glasses. In addition to that, there were some good things that happened in 2016, too. I dipped my toes into a new romance genre this year. The Pirate's Lady was published in November, my first historical romance with nary a hint of a paranormal element present. It was quite an accomplishment for me and it was educational to work with a new-to-me editor.

Also, I completed NaNoWriMo for the first time. Well, actually the second time. I completed it with a 65,000 word gothic novel the first year I joined the challenge, but never had the chance to verify the word count since my computer crashed on the last day of November. This year, I managed 52,209 words for Loving Boone, my newest WIP and it was verified.

Reviewing the lovely word count tracker that I obtained from the talented Svenja Gosen last year, I wrote a total of 97,485 words during 2016. Just a little shy of my goal of 100,000 words, but I'll take it. Besides writing most of Loving Boone, I'm in the midst of writing an untitled alien romance which is where most of the other words came from and I edited and revised an untitled paranormal romance featuring zombies.

Not too bad.

Goals for 2017

Looking forward to a new year brings with it a list of new goals. I have some personal goals such as finish incomplete projects around the house, get better organized and try to teach my kids better organization (I can hear parents laughing as you read this!), as well as some goals I didn't finish last year. I want to further my study of the German language and my guitar lessons sort of got set aside. I'm teaching myself to play and my 20 month-old son loves music and thinks my guitar is a toy for him to play with. Trying to find the right notes at the same time as keeping his little paws off the instrument presents a unique challenge.

As for my writing...

I found my writing groove during NaNo this last November. I write during my son's afternoon nap time. That gives me about an hour or two each day to work in relative peace and quiet (at least on the days the rest of my brood is in school). I write new words in the afternoon and work on edits in the morning or at night.

If I plan it correctly, I have the opportunity for a productive year.

  • Edit and/or revise Loving Boone
  • Finish writing the first draft of the Untitled Alien Romance
  • Complete edits for the Untitled Paranormal Romance with Zombies
  • Write a new novella for Camp NaNo 2017
  • Write a new novel for NaNoWriMo 2017
  • And, of course, I have a long list of books that I'd like to read and review

I have a few other WIP's that might join this list later in the year. I'm also considering joining the self-published author community this year. The wonderfully successful spec-fic author and my dear friend, Ash Krafton, has offered to help me through this big step in my career once I was ready. I'm thinking this year I might take the plunge.

Here's hoping everyone enjoys a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous 2017!

Happy New Year!

Time for a Change #IWSG

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
Visit others in this group here or find the hashtag #IWSG on Twitter.

This is my first post in the Insecure Writer's Support Group. I discovered this blog hop about a year ago and while I read many of the posts I've never written one of my own.

Time for a change.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm beyond insecure. Okay, well, maybe only my close friends know it. I don't advertise it. Except today! Ha! Seriously, I know I'm not the only one and that's okay.

Writers, as well as other artists, are known to be self-conscious and insecure, doubting their abilities.

I'm included in a great group of people!

Here we are in the first month of a brand new year! Hello, 2016! I'm always eager for these new starts. I want to try new things, accomplish the goals that I strive for and continue my resolutions. The trouble is that there are many times when I start something but I don't finish it. NaNoWriMo is counted among them. And I get easily discouraged by this.

And for some reason, I neglect to remember those times that I have finished stories. Many stories. So why should I be discouraged because I can't finish 50,000 words in one month?

For the beginning of 2016, I've made goals and resolutions. I have plans that I wish to accomplish. My fear is that I'll stop. That the motivation that stirs me along the first few days might dwindle.

So, for the start of the new year, I'm giving myself a total of 100,000 words to write. And I have the whole year to do it. It's not a race. I can finish it anytime I want. And not only that, but I'm including all words written in this goal, as in words written for journal entries and blog posts as well as any articles or stories that I write.

There have been too many days where I haven't written a word. Not a single word. Too many days that have gone by and I tell myself that I'll get that word count in and double tomorrow. But with those extra words stacked against me, its like climbing a steep mountain with heavy gear weighing me down. I'm not inclined to do it.

Sometimes I'm so easily discouraged.

Also, I'm not focusing on word count for my stories. I'm going to write it until the story gets done, not until the word count is reached. That way, I'm focusing on how much time I'm spending on my stories, whether its brainstorming, writing or editing. I'm doing something to move forward.

And if I include all of my writing to reach that 100,000 words, then I don't have the word count goal hovering over me.

It's been six days and I've written every day. Just the act of writing, no matter the content, feels good.

New Year, New Goals #writinggoals

Happy New Year, dear readers!

It's that time of year again. Time to look back at the old year to see what worked and what didn’t and re-evaluate for the new year. I'm the type of person who likes to set goals, but often things run amok and sometimes I don't complete them. Not all the time, but I'll admit to some time.

This is sort of what happened in 2015.

I had a list of goals and I did well during the first few months. Then my son was born in April and my life again turned upside down. This time with the added stress of some health issues that sprang up over the summer. My mind was not on writing. Also, I had some technical difficulty with my blog. So much so, that I was prepared to close this one and open a new one since I couldn't figure out why it wasn't posting. That, hopefully, has been resolved.

Not only that, but my social calendar quickly filled with events for my children in 2015. They are very sociable and eager to join groups and events, so as their mother I'm obliged to encourage and assist them. Plus, I have to drive them!

I'm hoping this year will turn out differently. I'm keeping a positive mindset. I'm all about juggling my family and my life and making things work, but I'm eager to jump back into my writing world. Writing is my passion. I love it! And I want to make a prosperous career out of it. As in, I'd like to be able to promise my husband that I'll contribute to paying some of the bills for the house and our family so he doesn't have to keep working overtime just to make ends meet.

Even though I had some major life events occurring this year, I did manage to get two stories written and sent to my editor and publisher. I'm working on re-writes for one and waiting to see if they'd like to contract for the other. And I have additions to the lists of possible future books. My idea file is overflowing!

Also, February marked the release of my 4th Merriweather Witches book, The Witch's Kiss. This one
is my favorite so far and I was excited to share it with my readers!
  • With that said, I'm not going to give myself a list of projects to complete as I did last year. I'm just going to focus on writing every day, whether it's for a story, an article or blog post, or even an entry in my personal journal. As long as I'm writing, getting words down on paper or text, I'm using my brain and exercising those creative muscles. I'll be happy with that. My goal is a page a day. I'm going easy on myself since some of my health issues are not yet resolved and my son is still waking up multiple times during the night, so there are days when I feel like a zombie. I usually write 1,000-2,000 words a day, on those days that I'm writing. I'd like to see 100,000 words by the end of the year. I even downloaded a beautiful word tracker program to keep count.

  • I want to complete the many unfinished projects I have hanging around the house. Such as scanning in the family photos into the computer and labeling them, finishing the baby records and journals I have for my kids, and working on the genealogy projects that I do in my spare time. And maybe some of those unfinished craft projects. I have a doll house that needs decorating, too.

  • My husband bought an electric guitar for me as a gift this year. I used to play guitar many years ago. This year, I want to relearn those songs I've forgotten and teach myself some new songs as well. I have a very musical family with both musicians and singers. My grandmother sang on the radio back in the day and always lamented over not pursuing her music career. My great-grandfather and my uncle played the guitar in different bands. My brother plays guitar, too. I even married into music. My husband is a bass player and singer with an album to his name. And now my eldest son is learning to play the trombone. So, I feel compelled to plunge myself back into the music world. And as I'm always practicing singing, my husband and I are talking about recording a duet. That is exciting!

  • Last, but not least, I want to become more fluent in the German language. I've become rusty over the years of disuse, so I want to practice reading and speaking it daily. I have a few novels written in German that I've been putting aside thinking it too complicated for me, but why should I not challenge myself? I'm not going to become fluent waiting to save up money to buy the Rosetta Stone (although that would be a nice addition to my language collection). Others have learned without the benefit of such programs and I have many books on the subject. I have no excuse. So, I'll practice a new word a day to ease myself back into the language. Over the next few weeks, I'd like to intensify that, but I'm starting out slow.

So there's my list of goals. What about you? Do you have any resolutions that you'd like to share?
